I'm thinking about applying to colleges near by to major in Drawing or Painting. I have had a passion for book illustrations for as long as I can remember.
I also love other kinds of illustrations such as greeting cards.
It would make sense for me to major in Illustration, but unfortunately there are no colleges near by that offer specifically Illustration.
So here is where my questions about the subject begin to surface...
(If you have advice about any of the questions at all, I would really appreciate the help.)
Do you think it is difficult to get a job in Illustration with a Bachelor's Degree in Drawing or Painting vs. a degree in Illustration?
Would you recommend a degree in Graphic Design, Drawing, or Painting in order to become an Illustrator? Are any of those majors really that different in comparison to majoring in Illustration?
Are there more opportunities to find work in Illustration by working for a company, or doing freelance work - in your opinion?
What kinds of jobs can you get with a Bachelor's degree in Drawing or Painting? (If Illustration is not one of the jobs you can get).
Do you have any advice or tips in regards to college application portfolios for Illustration, Drawing, Painting, or Graphic Design?
Any books, magazines, blogs, or websites that you would recommend on the subjects of Illustration, Drawing, Painting, Graphic Design, or careers in art?
Are there any suggestions or tips that you can share in general? Thanks for reading.
